Died on this day in 1588 aged 53 King Frederick II of Denmark and Norway (my toy,wikipedia). Father of Anne who married James VI & I. A military man he was fond of wine, women, and over eating. The wine may have been the cause of his death.
Born on this day in 1339 to Henry of Grosmont and Isabel of Beaumont, Maud of Lancaster (my toy,wikipedia). Also known as Matilda (apparently Maud and Matilda are the same name, this is confusing). Aunt of Henry VI (sister of his mother, Blanche). She and her sister were the only children of the Duke of Lancaster, the Duchy became extinct at his death, but the earldom of Lancaster went to John of Gaunt (Blanche's husband) whilst the Earldom of Leicester went to Maud's husband (terribly unfair, women not being able to inherit titles!) (Leicester went to Blanche after Maud died only a year later without living children).
