Died on this day in 16 aged -1151 King John of England (my toy,wikipedia). The King everyone loves to hate eg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMj16A7j4RM ... whether John really was all that bad is... debatable. Somehow Richard gets a much better reputation inspite of almost never being here spending huge sums on crusading and getting ransomed and etc.

Born on this day in 1658 to Adolf I, Duke of Mecklenburg and Marie , Adolphus Mecklenburg-Strelitz II, Duke of Mecklenburg-Strelitz (my toy,wikipedia). Grandfather of Charlotte who married George III.

Richard gets the better reputation because he wasn't here. John had to deal with the consequences of Richard spending huge sums on crusading etc. while Richard got the benefits of having done so. Also, John lost Normandy and Anjou. This sort of thing makes everyone unhappy (except, presumably, the French).

That said, John was terrible at inspiring loyalty, mostly because....well, he didn't really believe it existed. For this you can probably blame being the youngest (and therefore least favoured) son of Henry and Eleanor, who while both really interesting historical figures were not what you would call good parents.

Also, your date of birth script is broken.

Ah, what is broken is that the Open Office defaults to believing in 2-digit years which, er, don't work for my purposes; and I had forgotten to poke it.
