(no subject)

Died on this day in 1397 aged 68 William Montacute , 2nd Earl of Salisbury (my toy, wikipedia). Married to Joan of Kent (maybe) who later married (definitely) Edward the black prince. The confusion exists because Joan married Thomas Holland secretly, and was then forced to marry William by her family. The pope decided that she was married to Holland after all, and not Montacute, but she lived as his wife for a time.

Born on this day in 1865 to King Edward VII of the United Kingdom and Alexandra of Denmark, King George V of the the United Kingdom (my toy, wikipedia). George married his second cousin once removed twice over, who had previously been engaged to his (dead) older brother (I bet that was a barrel of laughs!). George was King during the 1st world war, when he changed his house-name from "Saxe-Coburg-Gotha" to "Windsor" as the country had a lot of anti-German feeling (must have been aqward) and after the war much less of Europe was ruled by his relatives.
