Died on this day in 1849 aged 57 Adelaide of Saxe Meiningen (my toy,wikipedia). Wife of William IV. Their marriage was arranged, largely in order for William to extract money from the government (there was a problem - George III had a notable lack of legitimate grandchildren) but appears to have been happy anyway. Adelaide was appointed ranger of Bushy Park (which is where parkrun started!). Adelaide and William had no children who lived beyond infancy.

Born on this day in 1849 to King George V of Hanover and Princess Marie of Solms-Braunfels, Princess Maria of Hanover (my toy,wikipedia). Great-grand-daughter of George III. Hanover having become disentangled from the UK due to Salic law her father was not also king of the UK. Marie never married or had children.
