Died on this day in 1327 aged 43 King Edward II of England (my toy, wikipedia). Edward II was King during a time a civil unrest (what a change!) and also war with France (because "there is a civil war going on" is just a FABULOUS time to start a war with France...). He had a controversial relationship with Piers Gaveston, who may have been a lover, but was certainly at least a friend and adviser. Gaveston was executed for treason, largely because of being unpopular with the barons. Eventually Edward was deposed by his wife Isabella who installed their son Edward III on the throne. He probably wasn't a very Good King. We didn't do this bit of English history in school and I'm still a bit confused about it all.
Born on this day in 1411 to Richard York , 3rd Earl of Cambridge and Anne de Mortimer, Richard York , 3rd Duke of York (my toy, wikipedia). Father of Edward IV, also great grandson of Edward III. Fought for the crown in France, and briefly in Ireland, before kicking of the Wars of the Roses. Richard died before being able to defeat Henry VI, but his sons finished the job.

Not that Conflux or I ever got invited - I think they were probably student-only (we ran the Oxford Uni massage society when he moved to near Oxford).
