Great grand son of Ferdinand and Isabella, parents of Catherine, first wife of Henry VIII. Ferdinand married a commoner secretly and morganetically. He collected a lot of art, and spent rather more money than he had on it.
Born on this day in 1777 Emmanuel von Mensdorff-Pouilly (my toy,wikipedia). Husband of Sophie, sister of Victoria, mother of Queen Victoria. Emmanuel was an officer in the Prussian army, and fought against Napoleon.

Date: 2016-02-25 03:59 pm (UTC)It's a marriage between socially unequal spouses, it's a legal-status improvement over being the Duke's Mistress, but you don't get to be the Duchess or have your children be Duke after him (they are legitimate though).
It's all a bit weird, as if just *having commoner blood* means you will obviously be rubbish at being Duke, even if you are *raised in the Ducal household*...
