1. What did you do in 2016 that you'd never done before?
Quit a 'real' job. (but I don't finish my notice until Feb) OMG NEW JOB.

2. Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't make them, so I didn't and won't.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Friends have had children, but not very close friends.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
No.

5. What countries did you visit?
Scotland.

6. What would you like to have in 2017 that you lacked in 2016?
A HOUSE. And I have said this approximately constantly for at least a decade. Although chances are rising that we will move within the medium term future.

7. What dates from 2016 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Dates, I'm bad at 'em.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
NEW JOB (starts Feb).

9. What was your biggest failure?
Running has sucked this year. I think it's an inner ear thing, especially since I just spent a week with DREADFUL nausea/balance issues. ugh. I dunno how to actually treat that though (I have anti nausea drugs). In particular attempting the Highlander was a TERRIBLE idea.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Labyrinthitis this past week. Some colds. Occasional bashed knees and sprained ankles. Nothing bad really.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
Phone. Squeee. (Pixel)

12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
Everyone who is still keeping calm and carrying on. Stupid 2016 being shit

13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
The electorate?

14. Where did most of your money go?
The biggest pie slice is "savings", then "fun stuff" (which is a bit useless as a category but includes everything that isn't savings, bills, transport or food.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Joooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooob.

16. What song will always remind you of 2016?

Music does not do this for me.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder? same same
b) thinner or fatter? same to within the margin of error
c) richer or poorer? very marginally richer, but trying to save harder, so day-to-day poorer.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Knitting

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Falling over.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
Paaaaaaarkrun. (Poole). and then a lot of mostly nothing, with the out laws.

21. Who did you spend the most time on the phone with?
My parents, who are the only people I ever spend significant time on the phone to.

22. Did you fall in love in 2016?
No, just stayed there

23. How many one-night stands?
Zero

24. What was your favourite TV programme?
By time watched Gallactica. Although I think the new Attenborough was better.


25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Nah, too much work.

26. What was the best book you read?
I read 79 of them (several were short stories though)... for best I think I'd go with Jo Walton's "Necessity" which is 3/3 don't-start-here or either the Novik or the Brennan for DRAGONS.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Didn't make any

28. What did you want and get?
Job. Phone.

29. What did you want and not get?
Remaining. President Clinton. A house.

30. What was your favourite film of this year?
Don't recall any well enough to care.

31. What did you do on your birthday?
Ate out in Sheffield. It was pretty good. Visited Chatsworth, it was big and impressive.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Politics being Less Shit.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2016?
I think once again that would be 'purple'.

34. What kept you sane?
My brain chemistry, for which I am grateful but can take no credit. And running.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Don't.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Brexit.

37. Who did you miss?
Mostly didn't.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
My memory for time is too bad to have any notion.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2016:
'sometimes people just suck'. 2016 had a lot of suck.
