Born on this day in 1555 to Richard Bertie and Catherine Willoughby de Salinas , 12th Baroness Willoughby de Eresby, Peregrine Bertie , 13th Baron Willoughby de Eresby (my toy,wikipedia). Catherine had previous been married to Charles Brandon who had previously married Mary Tudor the sister of Henry VIII. Peregrine was born in Germany, since his parents were in exile from England on religious grounds, when Elizabeth took the throne they returned to England and he was naturalised. He served Elizabeth as a diplomat. John Smith of Jamestown (in)fame was born on his estate. Also Peregrine is an excellent name.
