Sep. 15th, 2015 03:30 pmDied on this day in 984 aged 23 St Edith of Wilton (my toy,wikipedia). Daughter of King Edgar the Peaceful. Edith's mother was a nun at Wilton before being abducted by Edgar, which she may or may not have been happy about, and went back there with the infant Edith and became Abbess. Edith was raised in the nunnery and became a nun. Some minor miracles were associated with her after her death, including that her corpse was un-decayed years after burial. Her feast day is tomorrow (the 16th September).
Born on this day in 1666 to George Welf , Duke of Brunswick-Luneburg and Eleonore d'Olbreuse, Sophia of Celle (my toy,wikipedia). Wife of George I. Her marriage to George was arranged largely because she came with lots of money, and he needed lots of money. It was not at all a happy marriage, and both went on to have affairs. Whilst George keeping a mistress was not especially remarkable Sophia Dorothea was imprisoned (in a castle, but still, imprisoned) for infidelity.
