Sep. 19th, 2015 11:00 amDied on this day in 1580 aged 61 Catherine Willoughby de Salinas , 12th Baroness Willoughby de Eresby (my toy,wikipedia). Married Charles Brandon, who had previously been married to Mary Tudor (sister of Henry VIII) and *her guardian*. She was going to marry one of his sons, but then Mary died and he married her himself although he was 49 and she was 14; apparently the marriage was quite happy (she was rumoured to be going to be Henry VIII's 7th wife, and that would probably have been worse).
Born on this day in 1328 to Edmund of Woodstock Plantagenet , 1st Earl of Kent and Margaret Wake , 3rd Baronnes of Liddle, Joan of Kent (my toy,wikipedia). Mother of Richard II (Her husband Edward "the Black Prince" was never King on account of predeceasing his father), also a grand-daughter of Edward I. Known as "the Fair Maid of Kent" Joan was a renowned beauty. Joan and Edward lived mostly in Bordeaux (then ruled from England), where their two sons were born. Joan was for many years a power behind her young son's throne.
