Died on this day in 1550 aged 61 Ferdinand , Duke of Calabria (my toy,wikipedia). Married Germaine of Foix whose first husband was the father of Catherine of Aragon. Ferdinand's father was King of Naples, he was deposed by an alliance of France and Aragon in favour of the French King and then the Aragonese took Naples from the French. Ferdinand was taken prisoner and taken to Barcelona where he became friends with the King of Aragon, which is how he came to marry the widow of the previous King of Aragon.

Born on this day in 1509 to King James IV of Scotland and Margaret Tudor, Arthur Stuart , Duke of Rothsay (my toy,wikipedia). Elder brother of James V, and thus uncle of Mary Queen of Scots and great-uncle of James VI & I. Arthur was named for his deceased uncle Prince Arthur; like his uncle Arthur died before his father and never got to be King. Arthur is apparently a really bad choice of name for crown princes.
