Dec. 17th, 2015 04:26 pmDied on this day in 1471 aged 74 Isabella of Portugal (my toy,wikipedia). Grand-daughter of John of Gaunt. Isabella married the Duke of Burgundy, she struggled initially with the extravagance of the Burgundian court, and her husband's infidelity. She was active in politics, acting as regent while the Duke was away, and negotiating marriages for her children.
Born on this day in 1619 to Frederick V Elector Palatine and Elizabeth Stuart, the Winter Queen, Prince Rupert of the Rhine (my toy,wikipedia). Grandson of James VI & I. Rupert was a career soldier, fighting in a number of wars, including the English Civil War (as commander of the royalist cavalry). He later became a senior Royal Navy officer. He had an illegitimate daughter called Ruperta.
