We went to see the Hobbit. I like it. Beneath the cut are some Hobbity thoughts that may be spoilers

It was generally pretty; lovely advert for New Zealand (again). Oh, and Rivendell is SO PRETTY. Can I have one?

The dwarves were a bit excessively *silly* I thought; 'cept Thorin.

I did like all the extra back-story stuff and non-Bilbo POV stuff. I think it makes it all more interesting.

I was VERY DISSAPOINTED with the lack of TWEE SINGING from the Elves. Harumph (fa la la lally). The Dwarf singing was cool though; want the soundtrack!

I found the fast-moving-camera to the point of the image being blurred very disorientating; I guess it adds to the overall impression of speeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed but still I think it's an odd sort of thing to do.

But where was Thorin's beard? It's like some of the dwarfs decided 'screw being dwarfs, dwarfs aren't sexy enough, no beards and noses for us!' so actually they just look like humans for most of the time (especially Thorin, who totally just looks like Aragorn).

I think in part they were trying really really hard to make all the dwarves look different; but yes, Thorin should have had MOAR BEARD dammit.

I got the impression that they'd deliberately made him look like Aragorn.

And he did have a beard! By my count, only the dwarf who didn't know what a sling was didn't have some sort of facial hair.

He had a scrawny little beard, not the very long beard of Thorin Oakenshield...

And Bilbo tells the story and grins widely, as all who know Thorin know that he had a neatly trimmed Viggo-Mortensen.

Alternatively, the beard went on a separate adventure.

Alternatively, a longer beard just made him look too much like Chancellor Gowron.

I'm thinking that too, and I haven't even seen it yet! Its like they every dwarf had to be either good-looking OR have a long beard. why do they think the two are mutually exclusive? *grump*

The fast bits are possibly more disorientating because its filmed in 48fps and every other film these days is still 25fps. So you've got a lot more for your eye to follow. I mean its supposed to be really good, but it might be wierd til your brain gets used to it.
