Died on this day in 1053 aged 52 Godwin (my toy,wikipedia). Father of Harald Godwinson. Earl of Wessex. Godwin supported Cnut, and later his sons Harald Harefoot and Harthacnut; after Harthacnut's death Godwin then supported Edward, the last surviving son of Aethelred the Unready, who had be living in Normandy (presumably to avoid Cnut et. al.) who married Godwin's daughter Edith (this is about as close as the house of Godwin get to a "legitimate claim" to the throne, obviously having an army was vastly more important). After his death Harold succeeded him in Wessex.

Born on this day in 1367 to John of Gaunt and Blanche of Lancaster, King Henry IV of England (my toy,wikipedia). Nicked the throne offof Richard II. In a move not guaranteed to ensure the future peaceful stability of the country.
