It snew. Predictably our road has not been gritted or otherwise cleared. The larger roads seem to have been mostly cleared, although possibly just by people driving on them; the pavements are still skating rinks and the cycle paths are snow drifts and/or slush piles. Snow is pretty really nasty to cycle on.

We took advantage of the outside being cold to defrost the freezer; huge chunks and sheets of ice removed :-) Tips for keeping the freezer ice-free welcomed.

Freezers can only ice up to the extent that there's water vapour in the atmosphere within. I gather open ice-cube trays are the key way to land oneself with heavy icing, having it relatively full of sealed containers then not opening the door much results in very little icing.

Ah, perhaps I should find a closed sort of ice-cube tray then... do such beasts exist?

One sees this kind of thing in those glossy catalogues one reads eight hours into an eleven-hour flight. I see no mention of a lid, though.

Do you use ice cubes frequently, then? My mistake was leaving a couple of trays of ice cubes "just in case", rather than making them when I knew they'd be needed. In fact, given that I could never be bothered using them in drinks that were already chilled, my mistake was making ice cubes at all…

Hmm. Clingfilm? Freezer bag? Though you might end up picking scraps off plastic out of your teeth if they stick to the ice.

We probably use ice cubes most days. Currently we have an open ice-cube tray and an open box full of ice cubes (when the box empties we empty the tray into it and refill the tray with water; ensuring that their are always ice cubes available); we could clearly use a closed box.
