Died on this day in 1246 aged 67 Berengaria of Castile (my toy,wikipedia). Granddaughter of Henry II. Berengaria married her first cousin once removed, Alphonso IX of Leon in 1197; in 1198 the Pope began objecting to the marriage on the grounds of them being cousins, they stayed together until 1204 and had 5 children, but inspite of offering lots of money the Pope would not relent and the marriage was eventually annulled. Perhaps the pope was cross with them? Or perhaps this Pope just really believed that marrying your cousin was WRONG.

Born on this day in 1768 to King George III of the United Kingdom and Princess Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, Princess Augusta of the United Kingdom (my toy,wikipedia). Like all but one of her sisters Augusta was never permitted to marry and lived her whole life at her parents' court.
