Died on this day in 1182 aged 31 Agnes of Austria (my toy,wikipedia). Great-grand-daughter of Henry IV, Holy Roman Emperor; father of Henry V; husband of Matilda who was never Queen. Also she married King Stephen of Hungary; brother of Bela; husband of Margaret; who was previously married to Henry the Young King. Agnes' marriage to Stephen did not last long (he died) and she returned to Austria and later married the Duke of Carinthia, now mostly part of Austria.

Born on this day in 1334 King Henry II of Castile (my toy,wikipedia). Father of Eleanor; husband of Charles; brother of Joan; husband of Henry IV. Henry was an illegitimate son of Alfonso XI, his legitimate half brother claimed the throne on Alfonso's death, but Henry took it off him by force of arms. This was a terrible outcome for the Jews of Castile who were forced to hand over huge amounts of money to pay for the mercenaries that he hired to take the country off his brother.

This is #3 in the Heartland trilogy. I enjoyed the other two, and I enjoyed this one as well but I expect it wouldn't work as a standalone. It is YA SF in the currently common "teens fight against a dystopia" model.

Beguilement; Bujold

This is #1 in the Sharing Knife series. I've not got hugely far into it but so far am enjoying it (not a surprise, I usually find Bujold's prose compelling). This book needs to come with trigger warnings for "attempted rape" and "miscarriage".
